FESTIVAL OF MOORISH AND CHRISTIAN * The population of the city is divided in a Christian side and in a Moor side. They get dressed with rich suits and they parade in the streets. They imitate a battle in a castle in the square of the City council and harquebuses are being shot. They is also a procession for their patron Saint Blas where some fireworks are shot. The last day they shot the 'Cordà' in which they light hundred of flares in the streets. These parties of Moorish and Christian have been taken place since the 17th century. |

"FALLAS DE SAN JOSE" *** This is a great art manifestation in the streets. During these days enormous monuments of papier mâché are exposed in the streets. There are concerts, dances and other popular activities all around them. The origin of these parties lies in the Medieval Period but at the present time other excellent acts such as bullfights, fireworks in the river at nights and ' mascletaes' (there are lighted hundred of kilos of gunpowder in a great show of noise), were added. Other acts are the ' Crida', the Cavalcade of the 'Ninot' and the procession for offering flowers to the Virgin of which results a beautiful mantel. The final act is the 'cremà' in the 'Nit del Foc' in the night of March 19 when the monuments are burnt. |
